Online Poker and Bad Beats People with weak heart, stay away from online poker. Bad beat and online poker are mostly spoken in one sentence. If you are a regular cash game or tourney player, it would be best that you try to spend some time online. It will surely build your resistance to tilt whenever you encounter bad beats. Suck outs or out drawing a hand is a common occurence online. I not sure, but I guess they designed the software as such so you would get hooked on it. Afterall, it's so difficult to leave a table when you're stuck. A lot of the young poker phenoms now started as online pros, and have now crossed over to live games. Durr Dwan, Elky Grospellier, Ilari Sahamies are just some of the online poker sensations that have now invaded the a lot of the high stakes live games in Vegas and other parts of the world. You should see the range of hands that these guys play with! Check them out in HIgh Stakes Poker or Poker AAfter Dark. Online, these guys play between 12 to 20 tables at the same time. They spend more than 8 hours playing online. So if you put together the number of hands that they have played, a guy like Durr would have played more hands than a seasoned pro like Barry Greenstein. These online pros have seen more hands than any of the old-school pros, and since they are playing multi tables online and with time pressure, they can react quickly compared to a live game pro. They've seen a variety of hands, flops, turns, and rivers. They have figured out the odds on how their cards would hold up or suck out. It is for this reason that I have been spending at least 3 hours online everyday. I am hoping that the collective hands that I've played live and online would help me become a better poker player. As it is right now, I am very much surprised on how my game have opened up a bit. How I float with middle pair, and how I open a lot of pots with suited connectors. Eventually, my objective is to evolve and become a complete player, able to mix up my game, and being able to compete at a very high level. Clearly, like me, a lot of poker enthusiast are serious in improving their poker savvy, which is why playing poker is clearly a game of skill. |
